Why it matters
Computational mechanics now pervades every aspect of modern engineering in the most diverse ways. Years of experience in Finite Element modelling and algorithm development make it possible to tackle ever new topics that, until a few years ago, had not yet been explored or were not considered computable.
What you'll do
- Model, with commercial Finite Element software, phenomena and machinery involving advanced nonlinearities due to complex materials, large deformations or contact conditions.
- Develop general algorithms to automate and improve the engineering process.
- Any other topic related to Computational Mechanics can be proposed to the supervisor, who will assess its feasibility in terms of complexity and timing.
Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge of FEM simulations: Computational Mechanics course (or similar courses from other departments) and Advanced Solid Mechanics (optional).
- Basic programming skills (MATLAB or any other language): not essential, but useful. Not strictly necessary for FEM-modelling-only proposals, but always helpful.
Tools
- Commercial FEM software, for modelling (Straus7, Abaqus, or others).
- 3D CAD, for any geometry handling.
- Integrated development environments for engineering codes.
- Other software or equipment depending on the specific proposal.
